By the bluffs of the sea
Where the waves collide drunkenly
A drop from calm to frothing chaos
Where love was oft buried.
A sea that witnessed the fall of nations
A sea that saluted the last ride of men
A sea that cursed at the lover's forced leap
Where but for a genetic slip leapt them.
Cruelty is learnt from a polished society
That trembles at the hint of usurpation
Where even the rebel is scared of chaos
And sees equality as contamination.

INKTOBER 20: BLUFF/"THE WEATHERED CLIFFS"
MUSIC: 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky
VIDEO: The Long Long Holiday, Maury & Vinuesa, 2015 - Episode 7
A society built on cruelty will innovate cruelty. The cliffs of Sydney, Australia, were the scene of a series of murders of gay men by local gangs. All of Australia has been the scene of genocide of the indigenous to establish a settler colonial state, and racist apartheid against nonwhites. Through slow and painful reform, people can sometimes win victory; however these reforms are often too little too late. Australia became more friendly to its sexual and racial minorities but it was simply not enough and there has yet to be restitution to its indigenous or their brethren for their suffering under colonialism. People are still bigoted and the oppressive structures remain latent - the person who told me about these crimes was ironically a homophobe himself. In these situations, escape is necessary till cruel society collectively find their compassion and sense.
