SCREAM

Mouths open mid scream
Severed haplessly they lie
Grotesquely clubbed together
Bleeding away into grubby paper
Gaudy red ribbon as grim suture.

Castration every so often by the masked man in rubber
The noxious sterile spray over a commodified being
The phenolic stench of life plucked mid-bloom
To die slow in a pool of water far away from home
The capitalist bouquet lies on anthropocentric altar.

INKTOBER 6: BOUQUET/"SCREAM"

MUSIC: Spring, Vivaldi
VIDEO: Chicken Run, 2000, Aardman Animations/Pathe/Dreamworks (I simp for both Nick Park and Dreamworks, no surprise that this is one of my favourite films)

I tried to take a happy concept and write the darkest, most depressing poem I could ever write, as a challenge to my skill. I am proud of the result. Part of this was inspired by the dramatic language some (and may Allah forgive me for uttering this word) vegans use. The type to compare eating chicken to the Armenian genocide, recommend slasher documentaries, and cite "South Asian POC narratives of veganism". Ghazi Jamal keeps an oversized knuckle-bone on his wall to shoo them away if they decide to disrupt his Meditation on the health benefits of Nahari. Did you know it contains Vitamin C?
