I like my memories painted red
A rouge of violent hatred and shame
That float heavy above my head
And whisper convulsions in my ear
And I never get to turn them off
So I must find a way to take a snapshot of
The red nightmares of the day
And put it to paper in a proper way.
Intrusive Thoughts are debilitating and unexpected things. Usually part of a bigger mental problem such as OCD, they can make you feel disgusted, shocked and embarrased using a cocktail of memories and hypothetical situations. Displacement activity is usually a form of coping, as is constant mental stimulation such as listening to music or doodling, and some cases require medical assistance.
I wrote this during a Bhubaneswar Poetry Club workshop where we had to make a poem based on a colour. I guess the only music was the other members' voices.
